About

Dickens Victorian Village

For 20 seasons, Dickens Victorian Village has been bringing the charm and nostalgia of Victorian England to the heart of historic downtown Cambridge, Ohio. This beloved holiday tradition began with a simple yet inspired idea—how could we attract visitors to our downtown while celebrating our city’s rich history and English heritage?
The vision took shape when founder Bob Ley and his wife, Sue, recognized the perfect setting: Cambridge’s Victorian architecture, antique street lamps, and charming benches already evoked the atmosphere of 1850s London. From there, the idea of bringing scenes from the world of Charles Dickens to life became an exciting reality.

How it all Began

Bringing Dickens to Life

Bob designed the first mannequins, crafting life-sized, poseable figures based on classic Dickensian scenes. With the support of Cambridge Main Street, the idea quickly gained momentum. Enthusiastic volunteers, talented artists, and dedicated local businesses came together, breathing life into what would become one of the most unique holiday experiences in the Midwest.
The Eastern Ohio Art Guild, led by Martha Jamail, meticulously sculpted and painted each character’s expressive face.
Bob Bruner and his students at Mid-East Career and Technology Center Buffalo Campus assembled over 100 mannequins—all as a donation!
A dedicated team of volunteers worked tirelessly to dress each character in authentic period clothing, securing funding and ensuring historical accuracy.

Making Memories

A Magical Holiday Tradition

Since our first season in 2006, Dickens Victorian Village has grown into a must-see holiday destination. Visitors of all ages can stroll through nearly 100 breathtaking scenes, beautifully illuminated and perfectly placed along historic Wheeling Avenue, also known as the National Road (Route 40). The displays can be enjoyed on foot or from the warmth of a car, making it an accessible and magical experience for all.
Looking ahead, we continue to expand and enhance the experience, bringing new and special events to delight visitors each season.
Dickens Victorian Village is more than an event—it’s a cherished holiday tradition. We invite you to step back in time, experience the magic, and make memories that will last a lifetime.
